January Meeting Minutes

The merger with the Framework and Principles coalition
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
We agreed to ask the leaders from the Frameworks and Principles Coalition to propose the terms of the merger – or if this seems to complex a task to simply join our coalition.

The name change to Internet Rights and Principles
------------------------------------------------------------------
This was a really hot section of our chat --- In short there is no consensus (and in my humble opinion there will never be). Nevertheless we agreed to have one more week of discussion and decision making.

The proposal on the table is Dynamic Coalition on Internet Rights and Principles

Please contribute your thoughts and proposals and try to be as pragmatic and constructive as possible.
In this context the need to revise our mission statement was also brought up and found wide recognition. Please step forward if you can start/lead/bootstrap this effort!

GNI connection
----------------------------------------------------------
A working group has formed: Rebecca, Marco, Shaila, Lisa and myself – please indicate if you want to join, we will discuss in the forum on the website and report advancements to the list (I suggest that we do this for all working groups)

Robert suggested that “making GNI members accountable to their commitments and pushing for more - is what the DC should aim for.” And this found substantial support.

Establish contact with United Nations Human Rights bodies and explore possibilities for cooperation
