Revision of Pre-Euro Dig Workshop from Fri, 08/28/2009 - 05:39

Welcome to the Invitation & Coordination Page for the

Pre-EuroDig Internet Rights & Principles Workshop & Dinner

Internet Governance & Human Rights: Progress & Next Steps

When: Sunday 13th of September 2009.  The workshop will begin at 12.00 (noon), and we will have dinner around 20.00.

Where: Geneva (exact location to be confirmed)

Who: This is a multi-stakeholder workshop for all people who are either members of the Internet Rights and Principles Dynamic Coalition or who are interested in its work.  We are keen to have participation from the government, business and civil society sectors.  We'd especially like to invite new faces - if you're interested in human rights and internet governance, please come along.

What: The workshop is a mid-term meeting of the Dynamic Coalition and will consolidate the work we have been doing since the last Internet Governance Forum in December 2008.  We aim to build a shared understanding of what we mean by "rights and principles" in the context of internet governance, and how we can move towards our goal of building an internet governance regime that is rooted in human rights.  Particular emphasis will be placed on how the different stakeholder groups can work together to foster cooperation and meaningful change.

Agenda

The agenda for the meeting is flexible, and we invite all participants to suggest ideas and feed back to the group about work that they have been doing in this area.  Particular initiatives and issues we will be looking at are

(1) the revision of the APC Internet Rights Charter and

(2) a baseline report that coalition members have been working on: "Exploring an ethical approach to internet governance: values, principles and rights".

(3) review, deliberate and plan next steps for the Human Readable Privacy iniative

(4) the idea to organize a Human Rights on the Internet Award @ the IGF in Egypt

(5) examination of the roles that different stakeholder groups can play in the coalition, including challenges and opportunities for collaboration.

The coalition will be reporting the outcomes of the workshop in the IGF meetings that will follow the Eurodig event. This will be an excellent opportunity to reach out to the IGF community and prompt wider discussion on the issues.

Please feel free to discuss the agenda for the workshop on our mailing list.  You can find out more about the coalition and join the mailing list at http://internetrightsandprinciples.org
